Toyota software flaw in airbag deployment – 5,000 Prius vehicles recalled

Toyota has confirmed they have a software flaw in their airbag deployment system for some of their 2014 and 2015 Prius vehicles.  The software is designed to assess the weight of the person in the passenger seat and, if under a certain weight, the software directs the airbag not to deploy if a crash is encountered.

The software bug in their code can cause the system to incorrectly calculate the passenger weight and NOT deploy when it is supposed to deploy.
