In a strangely worded “recall that isn’t a recall” (Toyota refers to this as a “Customer Satisfaction Campaign”), Transport Canada issued Recall #2010323 for YARIS model years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 due to a problem with a Rostra Accessory Cruise Control.
Rostra informed Toyota that in rare circumstances when a two-way radio (used by emergency personnel) is operated in close proximity to the vehicle, the following can occur:
- the engine speed can fluctuate
- the “Malfunction Indicator Lamp” on the dashboard can turn on and if this happens, the engine power is reduced
Interestingly the recall notice states that a reduction in engine power “allows” the driver to pull over to the shoulder of the road.
